Monster Factory Factory
A downloadable mistake for Windows and macOS
Monster Factory Factory is an interactive character-creator, except all the sliders and controls are procedurally generated by you, and also there's no game, and also the only thing it can create is regret. It's heavily inspired by, and named after, the Monster Factory series on YouTube. Will the next slider just gently adjust the size of the nose, or shear half of their face into the sky? Only one way to find out.
Monster Factory Factory was made for PROCJAM 2017. I'd originally hoped to let you drop in your own models, or search online for ones automatically, but time constraints meant I had to just drop in a few friends to play with. Maybe in the future we'll add in more ways of adding in character possibilities? For now, treat this as more of a proof of concept.
How To Use It
The current model is shown in the middle of the screen. You can use the arrow keys and Z/X to move the camera around it, and press M to change the model you're using.
A model is broken down into parts, and the currently selected part is highlighted in red. Press Q/W to change which part you're editing. Then, to add a slider that changes the part of the model you've selected, use the buttons in the top right.
- Truck Sliders stretch and move large chunks of a model
- Melissa Sliders are more unpredictable and tend to spike or tear the model
- Scale Sliders make things bigger or smaller
Sometimes the sliders are too powerful or too weak. In the bottom left there are two sliders that control how strong the generated sliders are. Truck Strength affects the Truck and Scale sliders - right is stronger, left is weaker. Melissa Strength affects the Melissa sliders.
For a better view of your masterpiece, press S for Screenshot mode. You can press 1, 2 or 3 to put them in a funky location for even more art!
With thanks and love to the McElroys, Sekrit, and everyone involved in #procjam. Any questions? Hit me up at @mtrc or leave a comment here.
